跨國聖戰恐怖組織「伊斯蘭國」（IS）關聯媒體阿瑪克（Amaq）通訊社，引據未具名消息人士說，美國佛州奧蘭多同志夜店「脈動」12日造成50死53傷的槍擊屠殺案，是由「IS的戰士」執行。而美國媒體也指出，凶嫌馬汀在犯案時曾宣稱效忠IS。
歐巴馬譴責「恐怖仇恨」
IS首度自稱在美國本土發動恐攻，已被特警擊斃的凶嫌馬汀犯案之際也曾致電緊急救難中心，表明自已宣誓效忠IS。不過，美國官員表示，並未發現IS與該槍擊案有關聯的直接證據，也沒查到馬汀與IS有任何聯繫。
美國總統歐巴馬譴責「脈動」槍擊案是「恐怖與仇恨行徑」，並形容12日是「我的女同志、男同志、雙性戀和跨性別朋友們尤其心碎的一天」。他表示，美國聯邦調查局（FBI）將此案列為「恐怖攻擊」、進行相關調查，但還未能就凶嫌具體動機做出判斷。當局也正追查，凶嫌是否具激進派伊斯蘭極端主義傾向。
IS曾號召美境內恐攻
馬丁是FBI「已知的人物」，曾先後在2013年與2014年，因言論偏激及疑與恐怖組織有接觸，兩度遭聯調局探查底細，但FBI最後因證據不足而鬆手。
IS發言人阿德納尼甫於5月21日發布錄音訊息，強勢號召美國境內支持者，在上周開始的伊斯蘭齋戒月期間，對美國與歐洲國家發動恐攻。
西方國家的情報人員相信，阿德納尼是IS對控制區外目標發動攻擊計畫的監督者，而去年11月13日法國首都巴黎恐攻案，以及今年3月22日比利時首都布魯塞爾恐攻案，他都負有指揮責任。
有美國情報員指出，IS在敘利亞、伊拉克與利比亞的控制區正節節敗退，其此時宣稱犯下奧蘭多同志夜店槍擊案、「尋求某種扭曲的勝利」，實在不讓人意外。親IS的網路論壇上，更有一些認同IS的人讚揚凶嫌所為。
意圖破壞同志活動1人被抓
此外，IS過去一再於控制區內殘暴迫害同志因而惡名昭彰，包括施以酷刑、從高樓推下、動用行刑隊槍決、斬首、活活燒死，和以亂石砸死等。IS並網羅已知同志的電話與社群媒體聯繫對象，擴大對同志社群的虐殺行動。
另一方面，美國加州聖塔莫尼卡警方12日逮捕1名在座車藏有步槍、大量彈藥和製造炸彈材料的男子霍威爾，據他供稱原打算破壞加州洛杉磯同志遊行活動。
